an unexpected gift
My sister and her husband keep their loose change in a glass jar. Several jars, actually. Most are carafes because my sister thinks they're cool looking. Each carafe is for a specific coin. When one gets full, or even mostly full, my brother-in-law sorts them into coin rolls and cashes them in. All but the pennies. He hates rolling pennies. So when his penny carafe (actually, carafes since he has 2 for pennies) gets full, he puts the pennies in baggies and stashes them somewhere with plans to roll them "later". But later doesn't always come.

When cleaning out a troublesome box of random junk this weekend, I came across a heavy grocery bag with several stuffed baggies of pennies. Now, I happen to enjoy rolling coins. Any coins. I'm not prejudice against pennies. Not at all. It's the act of rolling that attracts me; it's relaxing and productive at the same time. Can't beat that! So I offered to roll them.

Sis dragged out her two full jars to add to the process. There might be more baggies stashed somewhere, but this is all we can find for now.

I've been rolling them off and on all day, watching the dollars add up and envisioning what we could do with it all. I was thinking a family night was in order. Pizza, movie, popcorn. It would be fun.

Sis just informed me that everything I roll is mine. Mine!

I'm up to $33 of rolled coins so far and I haven't even started on the largest carafe, filled to the brim. Possibly another $20 or more in there!

I'm tickled and humbled. Yeah, I could use this money! That's a tank of gas, or another pair of compression leggings, or... something fun that I haven't even considered yet because I don't let myself think about non-necessities when I'm unemployed.

I'll finish rolling them tomorrow. Can't wait to see how much I end up with! Woohoo!

I haven't done anything yet, beyond splurging on one meal at an actual sit-down restaurant. Still haven't decided what to do with the rest of it. Big decision! lol

Awesome! Pennies are severely under appreciated. If you keep out the copper ones, you may be able to get more by their weight. Oohoh, or maybe you'll find a really rare one!

I wouldn't know a rare one from a regular one, honestly. I did keep out the wheat pennies. My sister collects them.

My brother-in-law was shocked at how much money it came out to! heehee

I intend to! I just haven't decided what yet. It's still in bags in my car, waiting to go to the bank.

So many people don't care about pennies, they have become a throwaway coin. Heck, I keep them and after awhile they really add up. So cool for your sister to let you have those coins.

You're right. I tend to ignore them when they're just lying around, but I do empty my loose change into a baggie to count up later. Yeah, they can really add up.
